Hawaii Top Sights

By: Liz Patterson

With its wide variety of beautiful sights and exciting activities, Hawaii is a popular destination. Many travelers have found their paradise relaxing on its sun-bathed beaches or exploring its vibrant rainforests. Climb volcanoes, see significant historical sights, sample a delicious cuisine, and have the time of your life in this little patch of heaven on earth. If you are planning a trip to Hawaii, what should you see? Here are just a few of the myriad of attractions these islands have to offer.

Hanauma Bay Marine Preserve

The Bay is loved for its gorgeous horseshoe-shaped beach and wonderful, inviting turquoise water. The water in the reef is only waist-deep, making it a great opportunity for novice snorkelers to explore the exciting sanctuary of fascinating marine life. Here you can see hundreds and hundreds of different tropical fish all the colors of the rainbow. For a more challenging snorkel trip, you can swim out into deeper water to see sea turtles and other marine creatures.

Iolani Palace

For visions of splendor and beauty, take a tour of the Iolani Palace. The palace was built in 1882 by the last king of Hawaii. It stands three stories tall and is a lovely sight to see. Inside you will find the delights of the Palace Galleries, where you can wander past displays of the majestic jewels and regalia worn by the Hawaiian royalty.

Waikiki Beach

Dreamy Waikiki Beach is perhaps the most popular, the most famous beach in the world. The luxurious warm sands and sweeping waves have been all the rage since the 1950s. Years of use and thousands of tourists have left the beach slightly faded and diminished, but it is still a fantastic destination. Waikiki still possesses its same beauty, charm, and spell-binding excitement. Settle down under a palm tree and relax with your loved one or splash in the waves with a friend. Waikiki Beach is sure to thrill you.

Diamond Head State Monument

Though Diamond Head State Monument is a misnomer (Western explorers mistook stalactites for crystals), it is a beautiful and impressive destination in Hawaii. The exciting trail to the 761-foot peak begins inside the crater and is a manageable but steep hike. The average hiker takes about 45 minutes to reach the top. Just remember to wear good walking shoes and plenty of sunscreen. You also won’t want to be caught without a flashlight to navigate your way through the tunnels and, of course, a water bottle so you don’t get dehydrated along the way. Once you reach the summit of Diamond Head, you will be amply rewarded by an incredible view over the island.

Whether you choose to hang out on iconic Waikiki Beach, visit the interesting Iolani Palace, or explore the volcano crater at Diamond Head, you are sure to have a blast in beautiful Hawaii. With so much to offer, these islands are the ideal destination for any traveler, whether you are looking for peace and relaxation or fun and adventure.
